A big day for the Juniors and PJF. On Sunday, March 17th the Juniors won their first ever tournament against a good Effingham and Leatherhead side. I a tense final that was only settled late on in the second half PJF had to dig deep . In the first half PJF started brightly with Harry finishing a lovely move in the corner. THis was followed by another five minutes later. But gradually Effingham and Leatherhead started to come into their ownpartly because PJF conceded a number of penalties which enabled E&L to start to dominate territory and possession and partly through the good play from the E&L side. They managed to score two tries levelling the score. PJF responded immediately to score their third and PJF went into half time 3 tries to 2 to the good.
At the beginning of the second half PJF harried and pressured the E&L side pinning them back in their half, but PJF's next try came from a break away try that saw Rio run the length of the pitch to touch down. Back came E&L and scored a try of their own to make it 43 to PJF. Throughout the second half PJF harried the E&L side relentlessly ad this paid off in the end when E&L were forced into a mistake allowing Callum to intercept a pass on the goal line and dob the ball down. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as the 2 try margin was restored. But all credit to the Effingham side the continued to push right up to the final whistle. When it was blown the PJF lads erupted in joyous celebration for what they had achieved. It was one of their toughest games to date but to stick together through the tough patches of the game showed the sides character. A special mention must go to the squad players who didn't make it onto the pitch because of the limit on the squad side. Many had been instrumental in the side getting to the final by scoring tries in the early rounds. Without their effort the side wouldn't have been in the final. Which is why the every squad member is an integral part of the teams success. Well done you have really laid some solid foundations on which to build.
Next week the whole squad will be involved in a three team tournament at Plough Lane.
